Workshops

Y5 11+ VOCABULARY FOCUS

2h£50

One of the most challenging aspects of the 11+ exam is vocabulary, accounting for around 15% of the Verbal Reasoning and English sections.

Many children find this difficult because:
- The level of language is more advanced than what they usually encounter in school.
- The words and expressions are often beyond the books they typically choose to read.

Our vocabulary workshop aims to support pupils by:
- Exploring language in a variety of contexts to deepen understanding.
- Helping children cement new words and phrases into their working memory.
- Teaching practical techniques to make recalling and using unfamiliar vocabulary easier during the test.

Y5 11+ TEST SKILLS WORKSHOP (2 HOURS)

A fantastic opportunity to consolidate learning, tackle tricky topics and take another step towards 11+ success!

Y5 11+ SPATIAL WORKSHOP

2h£50

Spatial reasoning in the 11+ GL test (UK) is all about how well a child can understand and manipulate shapes and patterns in their mind. It doesn’t test knowledge in the same way as maths or English, but instead looks at how children think about space, movement, and visual relationships.

In the GL Assessment papers, spatial reasoning questions might involve:

Identifying the next shape in a sequence.

Finding the hidden shape within a diagram.

Rotating or reflecting a shape in their head.

Finding a the cube face that does not fit from a net.

Spotting which shape is different or doesn’t belong.

Many children find this area the most challenging, because it is so visual. Unlike vocabulary or times tables, which can be revised in a more straightforward way, spatial reasoning relies heavily on visualisation skills—being able to “see” the shapes move or change mentally. Some children naturally enjoy this type of puzzle, but for many it takes practice and confidence to improve.

Focus lessons

Y5 11+ SPATIAL FOCUS LESSONS X3

1h£60

Tuesdays 4:30pm or Saturdays 11am
Week 4: week commencing 16th November

Week 5: week commencing 23rd November

Week 6: week commencing 30th November

Spatial Reasoning is about thinking with shapes and objects in your mind. Children might need to mentally rotate shapes, visualise how objects fit together, identify patterns or work out what something would look like from a different perspective. It can be particularly difficult because, unlike many areas of Maths and English, spatial reasoning isn't something children regularly practise at school. A child can understand the question but still struggle to visualise the answer.

Our three-week Focus Sessions give children the opportunity to slow down and explicitly learn the different spatial strategies, rather than relying purely on natural visual ability. We break the skills down, model how to approach different question types and then revisit and practise those strategies, gradually building confidence and speed. The aim is to help children develop a toolkit of strategies they can draw on when faced with an unfamiliar spatial problem.

Y5 11+ MATHS FOCUS LESSONS X3

1h£60

Week commencing
4) 7th December
5) 14th December
6) 5th January

Our carefully designed Focus Sessions offer targeted, high-impact support to help students develop the essential skills required for success in the GL 11+ exam in September 2025. To maximise their benefit, the level of challenge has been increased to mirror the demands of the mock tests, ensuring your child builds resilience, sharpens their technique, and grows in confidence.

Far more than just extra lessons, these sessions concentrate on the trickiest areas that often hold students back — particularly mathematical reasoning and complex word problems. We cover critical topics such as fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio, statistics, and algebra in depth, equipping students with the core knowledge and strategies they need to excel.

With clear, step-by-step guidance and a strong focus on practical problem-solving skills, we help students break down even the most challenging questions, turning obstacles into opportunities. Our approach empowers your child to tackle the exam with clarity, confidence, and a real sense of achievement.

Spaces are limited – secure your child’s place today and give them the tools they need for 11+.

Y5 11+ ENGLISH FOCUS LESSONS x3

1h£60

Tuesdays 4:30pm or Saturdays 11am
Week 1: week commencing 19th October

OCTOBER HALF TERM 26th October - no weekly lessons

Week 2: week commencing 2nd November

Week 3: week commencing 9th November

Our English Focus Sessions are a three-week deep dive into comprehension, literary techniques and vocabulary. We explicitly teach children how to read between the lines, make inferences, understand an author’s choices and recognise literary techniques, as well as developing the breadth of vocabulary needed for the 11+. These are particularly important because many of the specific techniques and question styles tested in the 11+ aren’t explicitly taught at school.

By revisiting concepts and practising them across different texts, children develop secure strategies and greater confidence — helping them approach unfamiliar passages independently and understand what the question is really asking. Three weeks. One focus. Deeper understanding and secure strategies.

Year 4 11+ VR Focus Session x3

1h£60

Year 4 11+ NVR Focus Session x3

1h£60

Week 4: week commencing 16th November

Week 5: week commencing 23rd November

Week 6: week commencing 30th November

Help your child build confidence and excel in their GL 11+ Non-Verbal Reasoning with our focused NVR sessions. Designed to break down the more complex elements, each session is paced carefully to ensure your child fully understands and develops key skills in areas such as coding, sequences, matrices, and analogies, along with other challenging NVR topics. By mastering these essential techniques, your child will feel more prepared and self-assured for the 11+ exam.

We’ve been so happy with Chris,Nicola and the rest of the team at one to one. They have been amazing with my daughter’s 11+ tuition — so supportive, patient and encouraging. They go above and beyond. We’ve seen such a big improvement in both her confidence and ability, and she genuinely enjoys her lessons. We couldn’t recommend them highly enough. Thank you for all your hard work and support!

We can't thank Chris, Nic and the whole team at One to One Tutoring enough for everything they've done for our son, Anand. He sat his 11+ exam last week, and we're so proud of how far he's come. Over his time with them, Anand has improved a great deal, not just in his academic skills but in his confidence and belief in himself.

The tutors were supportive, encouraging and always patient, and they made the sessions something he was happy to attend. Whatever the result, we know he went into the exam feeling prepared and calm, and that's down to the time and care the team put in. We'd happily recommend them to any parent preparing their child for the 11+.

The team at One To One Tutoring have supported both my children through their 11+ preparation journeys, and I highly recommend them to any parents. Chris and Nic lead a team of fantastic, highly experienced tutors who go above and beyond for their students. They work with the kids as individuals and tailor the support to them. They are experts in adapting for additional needs like neurodiversity too. The teaching styles and nurturing approach of the whole team made a real difference for both my children.

·
My son has greatly benefited from attending the weekly classes, workshops, focus sessions, mock tests and one to one sessions here. Chris, Nic, Emma and the team have instilled confidence, determination to overcome challenges and self belief into my son within a supportive environment enabling him to thrive. I have noticed a real difference in him, he has been pushed to reach his potential and this has shown in his work at school also. He is achieving full marks in his maths tests at school and his comprehension has improved greatly so much so his teachers are impressed by his English and writing skills. I would like to thank Chris and Nic for their support, enthusiasm for teaching and their encouragement they have given to my son. The work they do clearly shows in their detailed feedback after every session, the depth of teaching experience as well as their passion for teaching is clear to see. The key thing to note here is the consistency with the teachers, work and routine. This is what sets this place apart from other tutoring businesses out there. I would definitely recommend one to one tutoring! Thank you for helping my son believe in himself and reach his potential!
